Special Report:

The Bush record on issues important to working families.

Jobs

Job Loss At All Time High According to the Department of Labor statistics, more than 3.2 million private-sector jobs - 110,345 each month - have been lost since January 2001. By July 2003, 9 million were oficially jobless - but experts estimate the real figure is closer to 15 million.

U.S. jobs that pay well have disappeared as a result of the recession that began in 2001. Critics have blamed the Bush administration's tax cuts, trade laws that encourage companies to move jobs overseas and the unwillingness of Bush and Congress to embarace job-creating programs to repair the nation's roads, schools and rail and water systems for making the situation worse.

Unemployment Insurance

The number of workers facing long-term unemployment and unable to find work before exhausting their unemployment benefits is at an all-time high. The Bush administration and congrssional Republicans refused to extend unemployment benefits until the public opinion forced action. Unfortunately, workers who already have exhausted their benefits were not included in the extension.

Education

The Bush Budget and Education

President Bush's budget eliminates 35 programs and cuts or freezes many others. Overall, the budget that Bush submitted to Congress provides the smallest increase in seven years, just a 2.8% increase. According to the Economic Policy Institute, the most troubling aspect of the President's budget is that it spends 50 times more on additional tax cuts for the top 1% that it does on education.

Early Childhood Initiatives

The Bush budget proposal for early childhood programs are too small to serve any additional children under Head Start and would cut funding for the Even Start program.

Bush's budget for Head Start, America's early childhood development program, increases less than the projected rate of inflation for 2003. The Children's Defense Fund estimates that only 3 out of 5 eligible infants and toddlers can participate in this valuable school readiness program.

What are they trying to hide?

Document extends secrecy on Area 51 in southern Nevada

ASSOCIATED PRESS - September 18, 2003

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) - Invoking national security, President Bush has renewed an exemption allowing the Air Force to keep mum about its top-secret operations at Groom Lake, also known as Area 51, in southern Nevada.

Bush signed a memorandum on Tuesday declaring it of "paramount interest" to exempt the base from disclosing classified information.

President Clinton first issued the exemption in 1995 in response to two lawsuits filed by injured workers in Nevada seeking information about the military's environmental practices at the site. It has been renewed yearly.

In renewing the order, Bush also cited the Nevada suits brought by injured workers and Helen Frost and Stella Kasza, widows of two men who worked at the military base.

In their 1994 lawsuits, Frost and Kasza alleged that their husbands were exposed to hazardous and toxic materials while working at Groom Lake, which sits along a dry lake bed in Lincoln County, about 90 miles north of Las Vegas. The area is in a no-fly zone and closed to the public.

Attorney Jonathan Turley, who represents the families, said the presidential directive keeps secret documents and testimony that he believes would link Area 51 to the men's deaths.

"It is baffling to see the government continue to cover up what went on at Area 51," said Turley, who is also a George Washington University law professor. "It is clear that there were criminal crimes and that government officials continue to resist any disclosure that would confirm such criminal content."

The 1-page memo exempts the Air Force from following federal, state or local solid waste and hazardous waste laws if classified information would be disclosed.

The government has acknowledged the existence of the Groom Lake installation but has not disclosed what it does at the facility.

The secrecy has fueled speculation about UFOs, aliens and other strange occurrences around Area 51. Residents of the nearby town of Rachel say the UFO talk began years ago when a Nevada Test Site worker claimed he saw alien ships there.

Word got around and the stories haven't stopped. Even the state got in on the UFO lore, officially naming a 98-mile stretch of state Route 375, which runs through Rachel, the Extraterrestrial Highway in 1996 and erecting green highway signs with images of spaceships.

Behold! The Bilderberg Club

A Small Group of White Men Run the World?

11-Jun-2003

Versailles Pepe Escobar writes in the Asia Times Online that the annual meeting of the Bilderberg club was held in May in Versailles, home of the French kings. The Bilderberg club is an international group of people (mostly men) who are the power elite in Europe and America. Critics of the organization say members get together once a year to decide how to run the world. Besides powerful politicians, the Bilderberg club also hosts top CEOs. Different people are invited every year. An anonymous committee puts together a list of 100 names and the meetings are shrouded in secrecy. Everyone who attends pledges not to talk about what was discussed at the meeting.

Some of the past and present attendees are Donald Rumsfeld, Richard Perle, and U.S. Deputy Defense Secretary Paul Wolfowitz. Money men have been represented by members of the Rockefeller family. International affairs are represented by Henry Kissinger, Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands, and Queen Sofia and King Juan Carlos of Spain. The Bilderberg doesn't invite Asians, Middle Easterners, Latin Americans or Africans.

This war doesn't makes sense! The world is better not better off without Saddam in power. This raises one strong question; are we really better off in the USA with Bush as president?

The idea behind the annual meetings is that what's good for big business is good for the world. They have some shady connections to the Nazis, via Prince Bernhard of the Netherlands, the father of Queen Beatrix, who founded the club in Bilderberg in 1954, in order to "increase understanding between Europe and North America." Bernhard was a member of Hitler's SS. One of the founding members of the Bilderberg is Otto Wolff von Amerongen, who has been linked to the Nazi theft of Jewish wealth during World War II.

Member Peter Sutherland, from Ireland, is chairman of Goldman Sachs and British Petroleum. In 2000, he and Rumsfeld served together on the board of Swiss energy company ABB, which sold two light-water nuclear reactors to North Korea, which they now admit they're using to make bombs. When you wonder how in the world something like this could have happened, it can be explained by the ultimate mutual admiration society the Bilderberg.

Would absolute, and total control over our Independence be so bad? Do we really need to ask such a question? Start asking now before we lose that right!
